Registered Massage Therapy
Massage therapy is a complementary treatment to physiotherapy, sports therapy, and rehabilitation as a complete musculoskeletal care strategy.
Registered Massage Therapy at Saanich Physiotherapy and Sports Clinic
Sore shoulders. Stiff necks. That nagging ache from Sunday’s hike. Whatever’s holding your body back, our Registered Massage Therapists are here to help you move better and feel better.
What Massage Therapy Actually Does
At its core, Registered Massage Therapy is the skilled manipulation of muscles and connective tissue. But the effects go well beyond relaxation: it enhances function, speeds healing, calms overactive muscle reflexes, and promotes genuine well-being from the inside out.
It can help with conditions like: Arthritis, Carpal Tunnel, Migraines, Nerve Compression, Bursitis, Tendonitis, Fibromyalgia, Postural Dysfunction, Pregnancy-related discomfort, Sprains, SI Joint Dysfunction, Headaches, Strains, Whiplash, Sciatica, and Scar Tissue.
From a sports perspective, it’s a go-to for Neck and Back Pain, Shoulder Pain, Hip Pain, Knee Pain, and Leg Pain. If you push your body hard, whether at the gym, on the trail, or just getting through a demanding week, massage therapy is both a powerful recovery tool and one of the best injury-prevention strategies you can build into your routine.
Our Techniques
Deep Tissue Massage
Designed for stubborn tension buried beneath the surface muscles, deep tissue work targets the layers underneath. It’s often the right call for chronic pain, athletes in heavy training, or anyone recovering from injury.
A quick clarification: “deep tissue” is often confused with “deep pressure.” Deep tissue massage is a targeted, technique-driven treatment for specific muscular-skeletal issues, not the same as a full-body session performed with sustained heavy pressure throughout. Applying true deep tissue techniques across the entire body in one sitting isn’t just impractical, it can actually cause injury. Our therapists know the difference, and they’ll tailor the session to what your body actually needs.
Myofascial Release
Fascia, the connective tissue wrapping your muscles, can develop tight, restrictive areas over time. In myofascial release, your therapist applies steady, sustained pressure using knuckles, elbows, or specialized tools to gradually stretch and release these restrictions, working patiently through each layer until the deeper tissue lets go.
Trigger Point Therapy
Not to be confused with simple pressure-point massage, this technique targets specific “trigger points” that cause local pain or refer pain elsewhere in the body — including headaches. It’s well-researched and widely respected in the field.
Scar Tissue Work
Surgery, C-sections, and injuries all leave scar tissue behind — and that buildup can restrict movement and cause discomfort long after the wound has healed. Our therapists use targeted, hands-on techniques to release this tissue and help you get back to doing what you love.
Why Choose a Registered Massage Therapist?
Not all massage is created equal. British Columbia’s RMTs are held to some of the highest training standards in North America, and ours bring that expertise to every session. Here’s what that means for you:
- Real assessment, real answers. Your therapist evaluates your specific condition and provides an accurate diagnosis and treatment plan — not a generic routine.
- Ongoing education. Mandatory continuing education keeps our therapists current with the latest research and techniques.
- Evidence-based care. Treatment is grounded in research, paired with patient education and remedial exercise.
- Rigorous credentials. Every RMT has completed a specialized program at an accredited college and passed the BC registration exams set by the College of Massage Therapists of BC (CMTBC).
- A strict code of ethics. You can trust that your care is safe, competent, and professional, every time.
